Marjorie/Marjorie Prime: Female, 80s - An elderly widow. Intelligent, sometimes sharp-witted, emotionally vulnerable, aware of her own decline. Not the stereotypical cliché of a frail elderly woman. Marjorie’s memories are fading, but we are not always sure what she cannot remember and what she chooses not to remember. She remains in the play after her death as a hologram, or Prime, recreated by her family.

Walter Prime: Male, 20s-30s – The holographic version of Marjorie’s late husband, whom she chooses to remember in his youth from the early days of their marriage. Charming, attentive, calm, and almost perfectly indistinguishable from a living human. He learns how to be more like the Walter Marjorie needs through the memories and stories shared with him.

Tess/Tess Prime: Female, 40s-50s (young enough to be Marjorie’s daughter, old enough to have children in their 20s) - Marjorie’s daughter. Protective, skeptical, emotionally guarded. Tess struggles with her mother’s declining memory and the complicated history of her family. She remains in the play after her death as a hologram, or Prime, recreated by her husband.

Jon: Male, 40s-50s - Tess’s husband. Thoughtful, compassionate. Jon tries to support his wife and mother-in-law while confronting his own feelings about loss, memory, and the past.
