Sold Out Shows Open Our 60th Diamond Anniversary Season!

October, 2010

And we’re off!…to a fantastic start for the new Town & Gown season. A Tuna Christmas was a huge success.  Kyle Shifflett and Seth Phillips really out did themselves with the hilariously amusing comedy which sold out the second week of the show. In addition, a special thank you to our Town & Gown patrons who graciously donated money to the Humane Society of Stillwater on behalf of Petey Fisk, A Tuna Christmas’s resident animal rescue go to guy. A total of $221 was collected and given to our local rescue shelter.

Cueless Improv began their season back on the Town & Gown stage with two fun shows this month entertaining about 100 guests. There were many new faces in the crowd who had never been to the theater before and expressed interest in returning for future shows. As always, if you are interested in joining Cueless, they have open practices every Tuesday at 5:30 pm and Saturday at 10:30 am.

Director Cindy Sheets held auditions for Kitchen Witches and production is under way. Linda Thrasher will play Dolly Biddle and Leigh Murray plays Isabel Lomax in this sure to be fun comedy opening November 11th. As with every production, we depend on our volunteers to make it all possible on and off stage.  Cindy is still looking for a few more crew members to help back stage during the run of the show. This is a good place to start if you ever thought about getting involved in theater. Or, if you would like to volunteer in any other ways, feel free to contact a director or one of our board members.

The kids Costume Workshop led by Kyle Shifflett went very well. The kids learned how to use everyday household items to add to typical costumes and created their very own costume to take home. Thanks to all the volunteers and parents who were involved.

Our next workshop is the fundraising workshop on November 9 at 6:30 pm. Members are welcome to join us as we learn from Georgia Williams, Oklahoma Arts Council member. She will share ideas on how nonprofit organizations like ours can be effective at fundraising.  It is important to RSVP for this event so Georgia can be prepared. Please let a board member know if you are interested in attending.

It is an exciting time to be a part of Town & Gown and we thank all of you for your continued support in fulfilling our mission as well as creating quality entertainment for our community.

Happy Fall!

-- Dawn Wilson,
Town & Gown President, 2010-11

The Kitchen Witches Ready to Stir Up the Fun at T&G!

Written by Caroline Smith
Directed by Cindy Sheets

November 11-14 & 18-21, 2010

  • Isobel Lomax and Dolly Biddle are two "mature" cable-access cooking show hostesses who have hated each other for 30 years, ever since Larry Biddle dated one and married the other. When circumstances put them together on a TV show called The Kitchen Witches, the insults are flung harder than the food! Dolly’s long-suffering TV-producer son Stephen tries to keep them on track, but as long as Dolly’s dressing room is one inch closer to the set than Isobel’s, it’s a losing battle, and the show becomes a rating smash as Dolly and Isobel top both Martha Stewart and Jerry Springer!
