Elections for New Board Members May 4 at 7pm and Other News

May, 2010

Summer is almost here and I can finally feel it in the weather. Yea! Now let's have some fun at the theatre.

First off I would like to encourage all current members to attend our next membership meeting. We will be electing new board members since Diane Keenom and Lucy Robinson are coming to the end of their terms. Thanks to Diane and Lucy for three great years of service and we hope to still have your gracious assistance in the future. Those who are running for the two open positions include Jacob Boyd, Jack Hodgson, Janice James, Billy McCollom and Debbie Sutton. Current members are eligible to vote so come on out and support your favorite candidate. If you are not paid up for this year and would like to vote, Susan will be there to take you membership dues. Come out and VOTE!

Our current production, All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten, still has one week of performances left so don't miss out on this wonderful show. Call (405) 372-9122 for tickets.

Cueless Improv, after a very successful performance at Stillwater Radio's Women's Night Out, is preparing for their show at Ghostlight Theatre, 3110 N. Walker, Oklahoma City, at 8pm. Tickets for that performance are $10. Their next T&G performances are set for May 7 & 8, 2010 at 8pm. Admission, as always, is only $5 so come out and laugh with this group of talented folks. A silent auction will be held in conjunction with these shows to raise money for a series of workshops over the summer.

The play selection committee has decided to keep the submission deadline open for a few more weeks, allowing those of you who have been procrastinating one last chance to get that play you want to direct in. We are looking forward to the committee's recommendation and a superb 60th season. The deadline for submissions is May 17, 2010, so if you still have something for consideration or any other questions, please contact Jacob Boyd. A big thanks goes to the Play Selection Committee for taking on such an important task of selecting on 60th season.

The 60th Anniversary Planning Committee is working on special events for our landmark season. The first of which will be a Street Fair set for Saturday, August 14, 2010 from 10am-6pm. This street fair will include local art vendors, children's activities, live music, theatrical performances, theatre tours, membership drive, silent auction, food, drinks  and much more throughout the day. There will be lots of volunteer opportunities for this day so mark your calendars now and contact Ashley Hodges to let her know you want to help. The committee is also asking for suggestions for activities so feel free to email those suggestions to Ashley as well.

On a less fun note, there will be some construction projects going on at Town & Gown shortly after Kindergarten wraps. A new roof will be added and some work to the damaged areas of the box office and backstage areas will be fixed. Please bear with us during our construction time and be safe around our mess.

Finally, mark your calendars for T&G's summer production, Little Shop of Horrors, which opens June 16, 2010. Director Kevin Worley has recently selected his cast and it looks like a great one. The cast list will be posted on the website soon after Kindergarten closes.

Get out there and support everything Town & Gown has to offer and until next time I'll see you at the theatre.

-- Jared F. Cranke,
Town & Gown President, 2009-10

Kindergarten Runs for One More Weekend

AltBased on Robert Fulghum's best-selling books, Kindergarten takes a funny, insightful, heartwarming look at what is profound in everyday life. This tightly woven adaptation has earned standing ovations from Singapore to Prague and from L.A. to D.C. It's an evening of theatrical storytelling in revue format, with monologues, dialogues, and multiple voice narration, enhanced through the use of live piano underscoring, which provides fluidity, charm, and emotional texture, and seven optional original songs. For more information, please email Debbie Sutton, director.

Want to Join a Committee

Our membership is growing and along with it our need to be pro-active and keep the theatre progressing forward. There are several opportunities to help by joining a committee and focusing some energy on a specific topic of Town & Gown Theatre.

Currently, a restructuring of several committees is taking place and new members are being recruited to assist in several areas such as finance, fundraising, productions, publicity and social/hospitality. A few details about each committee's responsibilities are listed in the section to the left. If you are interested in being a part of any of these committees and ensuring the continued growth of T&G, please contact Jared Cranke and let him know which area you may be interested in.

Thanks to those who already serve and are ready to join in the fun.
