Our 60th Season to be Announced Soon and Other Happenings

June, 2010

Happy Memorial Day to everyone! I hope you have a fun-filled weekend.

Our current production of Little Shop of Horrors, directed by Kevin Worley, is shaping up and promises to wrap up our season in wonderful fashion. This crowd-favorite musical is sure to have the audience laughing and singing while following the love story between Seymour and Audrey. The show opens Wednesday, June 16, 2010 and more information can be found below.

Shortly after our summer musical, Cueless will once again have two back to back shows July 16 & 17, 2010 at 8pm. Along with a great weekend of performances, members of Cueless will be attending the 2nd Annual Oklahoma City Improv Festival in July. Don't forget to see these shows and support the newest group to spring out of Town & Gown's talented pool of volunteers.

Congratulations to Jacob Boyd and Billy McCollom. They were elected to the Board of Directors last month and both seem to be ready to go. Thanks to all of those who were willing to serve. We couldn't do it without you.

The Play Selection Committee has finalized the submission process for the 60th season and it looks like an exciting season. We are still waiting to confirm some dates but will hopefully be able to announce details very soon. Thanks to Jacob Boyd, Joyce Cox, Kevin Gerfen, Merrill Price and Mark Weiser for working on the Play Selection Committee this year.

For those of you who have never auditioned for a play or are just don't understand how the audition process normally goes, we have a workshop planned just for you July 17, 2010 from 1-4pm. This workshop will be conducted by Tom Cowley from the Ponca Playhouse and will be free for current members of Town & Gown. Non-members can pay only $5 to attend the workshop. Other workshops are planned for later in the year so keep your eyes peeled for more information coming soon.

The upcoming Street Fair organized by the 60th Anniversary Planning Committee is still in the works and is now set for Saturday, August 28 at Town & Gown Theatre. The 60th Anniversary Planning Committee hopes the Street Fair will include local art vendors, children's activities, live music, short theatrical performances, theatre tours, membership drive, silent auction, food, drinks and much more throughout the day. There will be lots of volunteer opportunities for this day so mark your calendars now and contact Ashley Hodges to let her know you want to help. The committee is also asking for suggestions for activities so feel free to email those suggestions to Ashley as well. This is just the first event being planned to promote our theatre to the community during the landmark 60th season so your support and assistance are greatly appreciated.

Finally, our roof has been replaced. Plus, the water damage that was visible in the box office area has been (mostly) fixed. There is still a little more work to do cosmetically, but things are starting to look up for the building we all spend so much time in.

Lots of exciting things are happening at Town & Gown and I hope you all will continue to be a part of our continued success. Thanks and until next time I'll see you at the theatre.

Town & Gown President, 2009-10

June 16-20 & 23-27, 2010

A down-and out skid row floral assistant becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Soon “Audrey II” grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore who offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite, finally revealing itself to be an alien creature poised for global domination! One of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows of all time, this affectionate spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies has become a house-hold name, thanks to a highly successful film version and a score by the songwriting team of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, who redefined the animated musical film with Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”, “Beauty And The Beast” and “Aladdin.” Charming, tuneful and hilarious, with tongue firmly planted in cheek, “Little Shop Of Horrors” never fails to entertain.

Want to Join a Committee

Our membership is growing and along with it our need to be pro-active and keep the theatre progressing forward. There are several opportunities to help by joining a committee and focusing some energy on a specific topic of Town & Gown Theatre.

Currently, a restructuring of several committees is taking place and new members are being recruited to assist in several areas such as finance, fundraising, productions, publicity and social/hospitality. A few details about each committee's responsibilities are listed in the section to the left. If you are interested in being a part of any of these committees and ensuring the continued growth of T&G, please contact Jared Cranke and let him know which area you may be interested in.

Thanks to those who already serve and are ready to join in the fun.
