An Unusually Busy Summer for T&G

July, 2010

I think my keyboard is melting as I put together the latest newsletter. Although it is hot outside, Town & Gown is staying pretty busy this summer with Cueless, workshops and the upcoming season kickoff party. Also, we have a little bit of business that we like to call "Announcing the Best Season EVER!" Okay, maybe not "ever," but the season that has been set will definitely make the 60th Diamond Anniversary Season one to remember.

Congratulations to Kevin Worley and the cast and crew of Little Shop of Horrors for a very successful run last month. After a very busy opening week, the show had five straight sold-out performances the next week. A big thanks goes out to all involved and we look forward to working with all of you again in the future.

Up next at T&G, Cueless will once again have two back to back shows July 16 & 17, 2010, at 8pm. Along with a great weekend of performances, members of Cueless will be attending the 2nd Annual Oklahoma City Improv Festival in August. Don't forget to see these shows and support the newest group to spring out of Town & Gown's talented pool of volunteers.

For those of you who have never auditioned for a play or are just don't understand how the audition process normally goes, we have a workshop planned just for you July 17, 2010 from 1-4pm. This workshop will be conducted by Tom Cowley from the Ponca Playhouse and REACT Theatre in Tonkawa. The workshop will be free for current members of Town & Gown. Non-members can pay only $5 to attend the workshop. More workshops are already slated for the rest of the year, such as a fundraising workshop tentatively scheduled for September 1 and a Halloween costume workshop scheduled for October 9. Stay tuned for more details about both of these informative and fun events.

Finally, this will officially be my last message to all of you as President. It has been a fun, exciting time and I look forward to continuing to serve on the Board of Directors for another two years. I am anxious to turn the reins over to new President, Dawn Wilson, who I am confident will do a wonderful job. I hope all of you will support her and the rest of the Board this year. All of us who serve on the Board will continue to serve the theatre in order to help it thrive and grow as it has done for 60 years. So to all of you, I raise a glass and say "Here's to 60 great years of Town & Gown! May we continue to shine brightly for another 60 years!"

Until next time, I'll see you at the theatre.

-- Jared F. Cranke,
Town & Gown President, 2009-10

Announcing the 60th Diamond Anniversary Season

Written by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears & Ed Howard
Starring and Directed by Kyle Shifflett & Seth Phillips

September 23-26 & September 30-October 3, 2010

Seasons Greeting from A Tuna Christmas, the hilarious sequel to the hit comedy, Greater Tuna. Come spend the holidays with all your old favorite citizens of Tuna, Texas and make some new friends while you’re there. Two actors, with the help of some split-second costume changes, portray all 24 citizens of Texas’ third smallest town, where the Lion’s Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies. This time, it’s 24 hours before Christmas and all comic hell is about to break loose as the delightfully eccentric characters attempt to cope with seasonal traumas such as a disaster prone little theatre production of A Christmas Carol, and a yard decorating contest that is being sabotaged by a mysterious Christmas phantom! Bring the whole family and join in the holiday fun!

Written by Caroline Smith
Directed by Cindy Sheets

November 11-14 & 18-21, 2010

Isobel Lomax and Dolly Biddle are two "mature" cable-access cooking show hostesses who have hated each other for 30 years, ever since Larry Biddle dated one and married the other. When circumstances put them together on a TV show called The Kitchen Witches, the insults are flung harder than the food! Dolly’s long-suffering TV-producer son Stephen tries to keep them on track, but as long as Dolly’s dressing room is one inch closer to the set than Isobel’s, it’s a losing battle, and the show becomes a rating smash as Dolly and Isobel top both Martha Stewart and Jerry Springer!

Written by Ira Levin
Directed by Paul Weber

February 3-6 & 10-13, 2011

Seemingly comfortably ensconced in his charming Connecticut home, Sidney Bruhl, a successful writer of Broadway thrillers, is struggling to overcome a "dry" spell which has resulted in a string of failures and a shortage of funds. A possible break in his fortunes occurs when he receives a script from a student in the seminar he has been conducting at a nearby college—a thriller which Sidney recognizes immediately as a potential Broadway hit. Sidney’s plan, which he devises with his wife’s help, is to offer collaboration to the student, an idea which the younger man quickly accepts. Thereafter suspense mounts steadily as the plot begins to twist and turn with devilish cleverness, and with such an abundance of thrills and laughter, that audiences will be held enthralled until the final, startling moments of the play.

Book by Peter DePietro
Music by Galen Blum,
Wayne Barker and Vinnie Martucci
Lyrics by Tom Chiodo
Based on the Parker Brothers' Board Game
Musical Direction by Lauren Casey
Directed by Ashley Hodges

April 7-10 & 14-17, 2011

The internationally popular game is now a fun-filled musical which brings the world’s best known suspects to life and invites the audience to help solve the mystery: who killed Mr. Boddy, in what room and with what weapon. The audience is heavily involved in finding the culprit with 216 possible solutions! Only one hard nosed female detective is qualified to unravel the merry mayhem. Comic antics, witty lyrics and a beguiling score carry the investigation from room to room. Even after the culprit confesses, a surprise twist delights the audience.

Music by Charles Strouse
Lyrics by Martin Charnin
Book by Thomas Meehan
Based on Harold Gray's "Little Orphan Annie" Comic
Directed by Daniel Yates

June 15-19 & June 22-26, 2011

The Broadway smash hit! An orphan, Annie, and her dog Sandy are placed in the lap of luxury for a week as a part of a publicity campain for Oliver Warbucks. However, Annie’s stay turns out to be much more than anyone had bargained for as she works her way into everyone’s hearts and learns a few things for herself.

Want to Join a Committee

Our membership is growing and along with it our need to be pro-active and keep the theatre progressing forward. There are several opportunities to help by joining a committee and focusing some energy on a specific topic of Town & Gown Theatre.

Currently, a restructuring of several committees is taking place and new members are being recruited to assist in several areas such as finance, fundraising, productions, publicity and social/hospitality. A few details about each committee's responsibilities are listed in the section to the left. If you are interested in being a part of any of these committees and ensuring the continued growth of T&G, please contact Dawn Wilson and let her know which area you may be interested in.

Thanks to those who already serve and are ready to join in the fun.
