Hello, Town & Gown
Theater members and patrons.
I hope your holiday season was fun,
safe, and not too stressful.
If you missed the T&G holiday
party on Dec. 12th, you missed a
great time. We
had our usual wonderful potluck dinner fare,
and this year we were also treated to some
good old-fashioned entertainment courtesy of
Mr. John Jobe, “the old-timer.”
Mr. Jobe regaled the audience with
funny stories, silly songs, and homespun
wisdom. It
was unlike just about anything else we’ve
had at Town & Gown in some time, and by
all accounts “the old-timer” was a hit.
I’d like to extend a warm Thank You
to our organizing committee – Cindy
Sheets, Rhonda Joliff, and Sue Moore – for
a job very well done.
Speaking of hits, our
next great show, I Love You, You’re
Perfect, Now Change, directed by Mr.
Kyle Shifflett, is set to open in just a few
weeks. This
hilarious musical “celebration of the
mating game” runs Feb. 9-12 and 16-19.
Tickets are $14 for adults and $12
for students and go on sale Monday Feb. 6th
at the Town & Gown Box office (377-9122)
and at www.myticketscene.com. You can find
additional information on this production at
http://www.townandgown.org/production.html.
We have at least one
special event associated with Mr.
Shifflett’s show – a free wine tasting
the first Saturday evening, (Feb. 11th),
courtesy of Stable Ridge Vineyards in
Stroud, OK. Stable
Ridge will offer tastings before the show
and during intermission, and will have
bottled wine on hand for sale to patrons
(for consumption off-premises!).
We’re working on other fun little
extras for Kyle’s show as well – stay
tuned for more details!
I’d like to thank the
members who made it out to our January
member meeting on Tues. Jan. 3rd.
It was tough getting back into the
swing of things after all the holiday
hoopla, and your presence was greatly
appreciated.
I would also like to thank Mr. Mike
Melancon for volunteering to chair our Play
Selection Committee for our 2012-2013
season. As
many of you may know, Mike has a long and
distinguished history with Town & Gown
and we welcome his leadership on the
committee. Please
feel free to contact me or Mike if you are
interested in submitting a play for
consideration.
We have several DIY
improvement projects slated for this spring
as well. If you’d like to lend a hand, please contact me or Mr. Paul Weber
to let us know how you can help.
Relevant skills are appreciated, but
we will also provide on-the-job training to
enthusiastic volunteers!
As
always, the Town & Gown family thanks
you, our members, patrons, and volunteers;
for without you, none of this would be
possible. Have a great January – I hope to see you at the theater in a few
weeks!
Sincerely,
Jacob Boyd,
President, Town & Gown Theatre
