Happy Anniversary!

August, 2010

Happy Anniversary Town & Gown Theatre!  Congratulations on continuing to bring quality community theatre and an appreciation for the dramatic arts in Stillwater. Come celebrate our Diamond Anniversary, Shining Brightly for 60 years!

It is my honor to serve as Board President of Town & Gown Theatre. We kicked off our incredible season with our annual potluck party on August 3 with record attendance and plenty of food. Past directors, cast and crew members shared stories of their experience during the season and this season’s director’s had a chance to talk about their upcoming productions.  Recognition was given to our outgoing board members and the incoming board members and committee chairs were introduced.

However, the best part of this event has always been the volunteer of the year award. Awarding the “Golden Toilet Brush” trophy has been a yearly tradition since 2001. For the first time, we had two recipients. Jane Price was recognized for 45 years of volunteer service at Town & Gown. Newcomer Jason Watts was recognized for starting the Cueless Improv Comedy group. Congratulations to both.

There are a few upcoming events before our first production begins. Cueless is performing at the Improv Festival Oklahoma in Oklahoma City on August 20 at 7pm at the Lyric at the Plaza Theatre. Town & Gown will have a booth at Lights on Stillwater on August 25 providing information to thousands on the OSU Library lawn. On September 1, we are hosting a fundraising workshop at the theatre at 6:30 pm. Georgia Williams from the Oklahoma Arts Council will discuss successful fundraising techniques and how to make a plan for short-term and long-term fundraising. Area community theatres and their representatives are invited to attend this workshop.

On September 9, we are participating in a business showcase for the Young Professionals of Stillwater through the Chamber of Commerce from 4:30 to 6pm at the theatre and will have an Open House from 6:30 to 8pm for the public. There will be door prizes, a preview of shows to come, and a backstage tour. If you are interested in helping with this event please contact me or Sue Moore, if you haven’t already.

Committee chair persons have been selected so if you are interested in serving on a committee this year please feel free to contact me or the designated committee chair. A huge thanks to all our volunteers because without you none of this is possible!

Don’t forget to buy your Diamond Anniversary t-shirts and we look forward to seeing you at the theatre!

Thanks

-- Dawn Wilson,
Town & Gown President, 2010-11

A Tuna Christmas Kicks Off the 60th Season Next Month

Written by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears & Ed Howard
Starring and Directed by Kyle Shifflett & Seth Phillips

September 23-26 & September 30-October 3, 2010

Seasons Greeting from A Tuna Christmas, the hilarious sequel to the hit comedy, Greater Tuna. Come spend the holidays with all your old favorite citizens of Tuna, Texas and make some new friends while you’re there. Two actors, with the help of some split-second costume changes, portray all 24 citizens of Texas’ third smallest town, where the Lion’s Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies. This time, it’s 24 hours before Christmas and all comic hell is about to break loose as the delightfully eccentric characters attempt to cope with seasonal traumas such as a disaster prone little theatre production of A Christmas Carol, and a yard decorating contest that is being sabotaged by a mysterious Christmas phantom! Bring the whole family and join in the holiday fun!
