April, 2010
April is the month for fools and one of
the best ways to celebrate foolishness is
with Town & Gown Theatre! Lots of
happenings are underway at T&G so let's
get down to it.
Congratulations to Susan Weber and her
cast and crew for a successful production of
Tuesdays with Morrie. Our next
production, All I Really Need to Know I
Learned in Kindergarten, is coming along
smoothly and will be ready to open April 22,
2010. For more information about this
upcoming show, please contact Debbie
Sutton.
Auditions for Little Shop of Horrors
are right around the corner April 11 &
12, 2010 at 7pm at the theatre. Director
Kevin Worley wants those interested in
auditioning to bring 16-32 measures of a
Broadway-style song to perform. An
accompanist will be provided. Auditions will
also consist of cold readings from the
script. For more information, please contact
Kevin
Worley.
Cueless Improv is staying busy as well.
They have a performance scheduled as part of
Stillwater Radio's Women's Night Out at the
Payne County Expo Center April 22, 2010.
They will also be performing as part of OKC
Improv at the Ghostlight Theatre Club,
3110 N. Walker, Oklahoma City, at 8pm.
Tickets for that performance are $10. Their
next T&G performances are set for May 7
& 8, 2010 at 8pm. Admission, as always,
is only $5 so come out and laugh with this
group of talented folks.
The play selection committee is wrapping
up their submission process and already have
five plays submitted including:
- Crimes of the Heart, submitted
by Paul Weber
- Kitchen Witches, submitted by Cindy
Sheets
- Radio Gals, submitted by Jeri
Seefeldt
- Clue: The Musical, submitted by
Ashley Hodges
- Andromeda and Jade, an original
play submitted
and written by Shane O'Mealey
Thanks to all of these potential
directors for their willingness to direct at
T&G and best of luck to all of you. The
deadline for submissions is Wednesday, March
31, 2010, so if you still have something for
consideration, please contact Jacob
Boyd.
The new lighting equipment is in and
works like a charm! Thanks to Paul Weber for
getting all the kinks worked out with that
project. These improvements will benefit the
theatre for years to come.
The 60th Anniversary Planning Committee
is working on special events for our
landmark season. The first of which will be
a Street Fair set for Saturday, August 14,
2010 from 10am-6pm. This street fair will
include local art vendors, children's
activities, live music, theatrical
performances, theatre tours, membership
drive, silent auction, food, drinks
and much more throughout the day. There will
be lots of volunteer opportunities for this
day so mark your calendars now and contact Ashley
Hodges to let her know you want to help.
The committee is also asking for suggestions
for activities so feel free to email those
suggestions to Ashley as well.
Finally, a Kids Halloween Costume
Workshop is tentatively scheduled for
Saturday, October 9, 2010. This will be a
little bit different than some workshops in
the past but should be a lot of fun. Kids
will be able to come with a parent to the
theatre and learn how to make costumes from
everyday, household items plus get to create
their own Halloween costume at the end of
the day. More details about this workshop
will be coming in the near future. Thanks to
Kyle Shifflett for organizing this workshop.
Enjoy April and the
sunshine that is finally forecast for
Oklahoma, and until next time, I'll see you
at the theatre.
